A Memoir of the Construction, Cost, and Capacity of the Croton Aqueduct, Compiled from Official Documents
- SIGNED Decorative Cloth
- New York: Charles King, 1843
New York: Charles King, 1843. Decorative Cloth. Very Good. A very nice Association copy: WARMLY INSCRIBED BY THE AUTHOR AND PUBLISHER (CHARLES KING) TO ALEXANDER HAMILTON'S GRANDSON, CAPTAIN SCHUYLER HAMILTON (1822-1903), WHO IN TURN INSCRIBED THIS COPY TO HIS UNCLE, CHASE VAN DEN KEENE, on the title page. A solid copy to boot of the 1843 1st edition. Tight and VG in its patterned dark cloth, with fading along the spine and light offsetting at the fore-edges. Pronounced foxing as well to the preliminaries and, to a much lesser extent, along the text. Still though, bright and crisp and eminently legible. Lightly-tinted frontispiece ("View of the Croton Dam"), engraved by Jordan & Halpin. Continuing from the title page: "Together with an Account of the Civic Celebration of the Fourteenth October, 1842, on Occasion of the Completion of the Great Work: Preceded by a Preliminary Essay on Ancient and Modern Aqueducts.
