Very Good binding. 12mo; in calf, with borders rolled in blind; 179 pages followed by [11] pages of Index; rebacked in leather, with the original blank spine laid down; there are new endpapers; on the title page is penned "Thomas Oldfield, May 7th, 1789"; the title page states: "To this edition is added a Table of Contents and a large Alphabetical INDEX."~~Humphrey Prideaux was Dean of Norwich when he published Directions of Church-Wardens. He was quite intent that the ministers instruct the Wardens as to their duties (one can infer that there was a certain laxity from time to time). The role of the Wardens is delineated with great detail, and offers a useful picture of English parish churches in the early 18th century. An early printing.~~~. Very Good binding.
