Ohio Carriage Mfg. Co. Advertising Ephemera
- Cincinnati, Ohio: The Ohio Carriage Mfg. Co, 1905
Cincinnati, Ohio: The Ohio Carriage Mfg. Co, 1905. Good. Toned with dust soiling, tears to envelopes, short tears (including large tears to larger poster), light spotting. One of the letters lacking final page.. A small group of ephemera advertising The Ohio Carriage Mfg. Co., makers of fine vehicles, harnesses and accessories "sold direct from our Factory to the User". Together, the ephemera provides valuable insight into transportation and business history, and how vital circulars and written sales pitches were to manufacturing companies at the time. Also interesting to see what sales techniques never change (e.g. illustrating the products always helps sell). In total there are seven (7) items, including three (3) sales pitch letters, two (2) order blanks, and two illustrated flyers advertising the products.
The items include:
Two (2) typewritten sales pitch letters dated April 1904 on illustrated company letterhead measuring approx. 7.25" by 8.5", with original postmarked and stamped 3.5" by 6.5" envelopes.
One (1) lengthy typewritten sales pitch letter on illustrated company letterhead dates March 1, 1905, measuring approx. 10.75" by 8.5". Two pages, possibly lacking a third.
Two (2) detailed 11" by 8.25" order blanks providing valuable insight into the exact specifications of the products and accessories available to customers.
Illustrated flyer for the "Split Hickory Flyer" printed in red and black measuring approx. 12" by 18" unfolded, with images of the buggy's different parts and accessories. Includes more detailed listing of parts and specs on verso. Folds to 3" by 9".
Large illustrated poster advertising the "Split Hickory Special Top Buggy", measuring approx. 25" by 18.25" unfolded, 3" by 9" folded. Includes highly detailed descriptions and specifications of different buggy parts and accessories, illustrated, with directions for how to order and further sales pitch on verso. Includes a bit of dictation history: on two of the sale pitch letters, there is an ink stamp that reads: "Dictated to and Transcribed from the Phonograph". An early version of an e-mail with the signature, "Sent from my iPhone"!
