N.p.: N.p., 1923. Vintage borderless press photograph of boxing champion Jack Dempsey—in 1923 at the peak of his powers—training at his training camp in Saratoga Lake, New York, in 1923. Newspaper clipping, file stamp, and annotations in manuscript pencil, noting a date of September 7, 1923, on the verso.
Dempsey would fight in his legendary match against Argentinean boxer Luis Ángel Firpo days later, on September 14, 1923, at the Polo Grounds in New York City. The Dempsey-Firpo match was one of the most significant sporting events of its time, and cemented Dempsey's status as the leading heavyweight of his era.
From the archive of the PIX Agency, an American photo house that acted as an intermediary between emigre photographers (as well as those still living in Europe) and the American magazine and newspaper market between 1935-1969.
7 x 8.25 inches. Very Good, with a chip at the bottom right corner, and touchups on the recto for publication.
