Original photograph of Ray Charles performing in Paris, 1961
- Paris: Agence Dalmas, 1961
Paris: Agence Dalmas, 1961. Vintage borderless photograph of Ray Charles at the organ, performing at the Palais des Sports in October of 1961. Agence Dalmas stamp on the verso.
Charles gave a series of seven concerts at the Palais des Sports between October 20 and October 24, 1961, following performances in Zurich and Leon on the 18th and 19th, respectively. The shows, along with a leading act at the Antibes Jazz Festival in July of that same year, marked a significant turning point in Charles' career, and cemented his status as one of the best-loved American jazz musicians in western Europe.
From the archive of the PIX Agency, an American photo house that acted as an intermediary between emigre photographers (as well as those still living in Europe) and the American magazine and newspaper market between 1935-1969.
10.75 x 8.25 inches, archivally mounted in a white mat measuring 18 x 14 inches. Very Good plus.
