Lovely children's book set in the author's childhood home in the Austrian Tyrollean mountains. Much like his work "Madeline's Rescue," which had just been awarded the Caldecott Medal the same year, this story revolves around a rescue of a young skier who gets trapped in an avalanche. According to the rear jacket blurb the story is true "as told to Mr. Bemelmans by an officer of the Tyrolean [sic] Gendarmerie who took part in the rescue.
