The inscription reads: "To John/ With all good wishes/ Bob." Jackson [1892-1954], who had a long and distinguished career as a lawyer and politician, served as associate justice of the United States Supreme Court, United States Solicitor General and United States Attorney General. He was also the chief prosecutor for the United States at the Nuremberg trials. Blair was a close friend of Jackson's. He was a successful businessman and advisor to Franklin D. Roosevelt and Henry Morgenthau, Jr.
