The Hollow Earth; The Greatest Geographical Discovery in History
- New York: University Books, 1969
New York: University Books, 1969. First Edition. Octavo. 21.5cm. Publisher's black cloth titled in silver gilt to spine. Dustjacket. 254pp. Light bumping to spine ends, a little rubbing and scuffing to extremities in a bright, clean, pink and red priceclipped dustjacket with some light rubbing and fraying, minor soiling to front and rear panels. A very good copy, internally clean although with two library discard stamps, to the front and rear flyleaves with no other evidence of library markings.
A deep dive, no pun intended, into the possibility of, and indeed evidence for, a hollow earth zone accessible from somewhere with the Arctic Circle that explorers like Peary, Ross etc. failed to locate, but that this book suggests they were aware of. A source of fascination amongst explorers of alternative archaeology and the Other Sciences since the 17th century, and which reached one logical climax in the 1870's with Verne, and another less logical one in the 1940's when it became clear that the Nazis held strongly considered beliefs regarding the concept.
