Parisiis [Paris]: Apud Sebastianum Nivellium [Sebastien Nivelle], 1574. Very Good. Parisiis [Paris]: Apud Sebastianum Nivellium via Iacobaea sub Ciconiis [Sebastien Nivelle], 1574. "Edition altera priori castigatior." Folio (32.5cm.); full later roan decoratively ruled in black and gilt with gilt lozenge to upper cover, all edges speckled, marbled endpapers; [112],607,[3]pp. (collated complete). Leather rather dried along spine margins with brief peeling to both boards, small chip at spine foot, flaking to lozenge gilt, else a Very Good, internally fresh and sound copy.

Handsome edition published by the prolific Parisian printer Sebastien Nivelle (ca. 1523-1603) who apprenticed for Charlotte Guillard, one of the earliest documented women printers. This edition sports Nivelle's elaborate printer's device on the title page, the central image depicting two storks fighting over a worm as they fly above a river-side cityscape encircled by a fruit wreath. The image is surrounded by four allegorical scenes depicting filial piety, the bottom two featuring a woman breast-feeding a grown woman on the left, an old man on the right. (See the Vassar College Digital Library for more information on Nivelle.)
