Title page printed in red and black. Very good. Boards bowed (as is common with vellum). Vellum lightly soiled. Ribbon tie frayed. Pages toned, and a little brittle along the edges. 24 tipped-in color plates with captioned tissue-guards. 12 tinted plates. 66 black-and-white drawings. The plate at p. 254 is defective, as always. All plates present. Ex-libris Rudolph August Williams, with his bookplate on the front pastedown. Rudolph August Williams (1846-1915) was an American physician, chemist, and toxicologist. He was the premier authority on poisons in the United States and was a forensic toxicologist in many prominent capital murder cases of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. This 1907 edition contains several illustrations that were not present in the 1898 edition.
Of this large paper edition of the Ingoldsby Legends only 560 copies have been printed, of which 500 are for sale in England and 50 in America. This is No. 9 of the American Edition. Signed by Arthur Rackham on the limitation page.
