Commonly known under the title, "English as She Is Spoke," Carolino's inaccurate and unidiomatic translations are now widely considered an inadvertent comic masterpiece. In his introduction, Twain remarks, "nobody can add to the absurdity of this book, nobody can imitate it successfully, nobody can hope to produce its fellow; it is perfect, it must and will stand alone; its immortality is secure." Wrapper issue rather scarce and rare in this condition.
