By Joan Bennett (subject)
Los Angeles: Paramount Pictures, 1935. Two vintage publicity photographs of actress Joan Bennett in 1935. Mimeo snipes on the versos of both photographs, promoting Bennett's appearance opposite Bing Crosby in the 1935 film "Two for Tonight."

From the collection of artist and author Duncan Hannah.

Duncan Hannah was a key figure in the burgeoning New York underground arts scene, befriending Andy Warhol and his superstars, Lou Reed, Allen Ginsberg, Patti Smith, Salvador Dali, and many others. A graduate of the Parsons School of Design, his paintings were exhibited in the influential 1980 Times Square Show alongside work by Keith Haring and Jean-Michel Basquiat, and several of his paintings are held in the permanent collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

Joan Bennett is remembered today as one of the few actresses that successfully survived the transition from silent film into the sound era. She appeared in several films noir directed by Fritz Lang, including "Man Hunt" (1941), "The Woman in the Window" (1944), and "Scarlet Street" (1945). Bennett was dropped by Paramount and virtually blacklisted in Hollywood in 1951, when, in a fit of jealousy, her then-husband Walter Wanger shot and injured her agent. Although she successfully transitioned to television acting, her career never fully recovered.
