Evanston, Illinois: Shorefront Press, 2004. First Edition. Quarto. 25.5cm. Publisher's limp card wraps titled in black. [ix] 77pp. Minimal wear, internally clean, a near fine copy.

An illustrated history of the Evanston YMCA branch that became an historic informal hub and gathering place for the African American population from its inception in 1914 to its eventual closing in 1969. Shorefront was a publishing and archival endeavor built from the ground up by, and for, the African American community of Evanston, with the aim of preserving and celebrating their unique local history. A seemingly almost unknown publication, with only 7 copies recorded in US institutions, and a brave attempt to preserve community history.
