This was the first collected edition of The Nachman Stories, the author's stories with Los Angeles mathematician Raphael Nachman as their hero. Written at the end of the author's life between 1997 and 2003. Leonard Michaels (1933-2003) was a prolific writer who received a Ph.D in English in 1967 and in 1969 became a professor at the University of California, Berkeley, from which he retired in 1994. This book contains nine photographic portraits of Michaels, They were taken over the course of his career as a writer between 1962 and 1995 and are arranged in chronological order with the exception of the frontispiece. This is a large octavo bound in full blue cloth, Iris Wisteria, with a titling band of Japanese Yatsuo handmade mustard colored paper running diagonally across the cover. The endpapers are gray mouldmade Italian Tiziano. Printed in Janson type with Caslon figures for the text and Univers for display, on gray Basingwerk paper. Accompanied by the prospectus. In fine condition. Measures 6.5 x 9 7/8 inches. 164 pages.
