Based on the 1956 novel "Angélique, Marquise des Anges," by Anne and Serge Golon. The first of a series of five films, followed by "Marvelous Angelique" (1965), "Angelique and the King" (1966), "Untamable Angelique" (1967), and "Angelique and the Sultan" (1968). Angelique finds herself entangled in a political assassination and becomes betrothed to a man twelve years her senior, rumored to be a sorcerer.

Set in 17th century France, shot on location in Cote-d'Or, France and Lazio, Italy.
