Edinburgh: James Watson, 1719. 12mo (approx. 5 x 2.5 in). 2 vols. Double gilt-paneled boards with turnip tools with buds and a central daisy tool, surrounded by a border of half-circles and corner fleurons. Spines with four raised bands with central alternating gilt saltires or floral design. All edges gilt. Marbled endpapers. Condition: Corners slightly bumped, covers slightly bowed. Old ownership inscription effaced in first volume 19th century ink signature; a few pencil notes on endpapers. A fine example of a Scottish Herringbone design, one of two distinctive national styles of Scottish bookbinding in the 18th century. Both styles (the Herringbone and the Scottish Wheel) are found primarily on Bibles. References: Herbert 950.
