Arterial Plan for New Orleans
- Original wraps
- New York: Andrews & Clark, Consulting Engineers, 1946
New York: Andrews & Clark, Consulting Engineers, 1946. Original wraps. Near Fine. Uncommon 1946 report authored by Robert Moses, who worked with the engineering firm Andrews & Clark to propose a solution to the "traffic and transportation problems in the City of New Orleans and its surroundings". Though specifics of the "Riverfront Expressway" proposal were nixed by preservationists, a number of aspects of Moses's plan were eventually implemented. To many traditionalists though, the key was that an expressway which threatened to cut through historic downtown neighborhoods was never built, symbolically rejecting what many saw as Robert Moses's harsh tactics. This copy is crisp and bright and well-preserved in its gray stapled wrappers. Very light soiling to the panels, minor streaking at the rear panel, very light wear along the spine crown. Internally very clean, save for one piece of writing, a small 4-word note at the top of the title page written in pencil and stating "Robert Moses's Orig copy". (Though we're unable to autherticate this, given the very impressive provenance of this copy {shared upon request} we believe it's distinctly possible). Folio, sophisticated maps and charts (many of them in rich color) throughout. Printed by Steidinger Press Inc.
