Los Angeles: Automobile Club of Southern California, 1933. Soft cover. VG-. First published work for the young, fledgling commercial artist Lustig (1915 - 1955) who submitted this cover art when he was 18 years old. Lustig went in to become one of the leading dustjacket artists of the 1950s whose modern graphic design befit much of the avant garde and intellectual titles of the period. The magazine measures approx 10 x 12.25", the cover depicting a limousine traversing terrain from the desert to snow-capped mountains printed in black and red, with his reproduced signature - in a primitive version of the signature he would be known for - in the lower right corner. 42 pages, internals toned, some chipping and wear to spine and cover edges, cover moderately worn. The unsolicited submission prompted Touring Topics editor Hall to hire the young Lustig as art editor for the next issue. The cover is referenced in the most authoritative bibliography of Lustig's ouevre as his first published work in "Born Modern: The Life and Design of Alvin Lustig" by Steve Heller and Elaine Lustig Cohen (Chronicle Books, 2010), pp 22-23.
