A handsome chromolithographed textile bolt label, produced by the Richmond branch of the prominent lithographer A. Hoen & Co. Measuring approx. 6.75" by 8.75"), verso blank, with a depiction on the front of a little blonde girl on the lap of her mother. includes blank spaces for the sale agent to write the "No." and amount of yards in the bolt. Early ink notation to lower left-hand corner (possibly color or pattern numbers?). A. Hoen & Company was founded in Baltimore in 1835, gradually expanding and opening a branch in Richmond under the proprietorship of the owner's son, Ernest August Hoen. The Richmond plant produced labels, sheet music covers, and other highly visual ephemera.
