Comic novel about "the Emmett Kelly of crime" -- a bank robber who pulls off his heists dressed in a fright wig and a polka-dotted clown suit. Basis for the somewhat underrated 1990 film directed by and starring Bill Murray (and also bearing at least a glancing resemblance to the 2006 Spike Lee joint "Inside Man"). This is a special advance copy -- and rather interestingly, a hardcover-with-dust jacket instead of the more typical printed wrappers -- with a large label reading "With Compliments of Doubleday & Company, Inc." on the front endpaper, and a reproduction of a letter to booksellers from legendary Doubleday editor Ken McCormick filling the rear panel. .
