Fine hand painted porcelain figurine of Mozart executed by Scheibe Alsbach of Dresden in Saxony. After 1905
Mozart is depicted seated on a purple upholstered chair, legs crossed, wearing a dark reddish brown coat with lapel and inside in light yellow, a blue vest, white ruffled shirt, black britches, and black shoes with gold buckles. The composer holds a writing implement in his right hand and a leaf of music manuscript paper in his left; sheets of music paper lie on the floor under the composer. On an off-white base with "Mozart" in gold on front edge and lower edge in gold.
Height: 5.625" (142 mm). Scheibe Alsbach mark, a blue "S" on crossed swords, to side of base; the letters "AH" engraved to underside of base and initials "AG" painted in sepia to underside, possibly identifying the artisan who made or painted the work.
In near-fine condition. The Scheibe Alsbach company was established in 1835 and became one of the foremost decorative porcelain makers in Germany.
