By Fernand Mourlot
Monte Carlo: Andre Sauret, 1964. Pictorial wrappers. Near Fine/Near Fine. A lovely, complete set of Picasso's lithographs, in 4 uniform quarto volumes. All 4 volumes clean and Near Fine in their pictorial wrappers (which themselves constitute original lithographs), all the volumes in either the publisher's glassine (Vol. I) or mylar (Vols. II-IV) dustjackets. The set is limited to 2,500 copies all told and is considered the full collecton of Picasso's lithography. There are 12 original lithographs in the set (the 4 double-spread wrappers PLUS the 4 frontispieces) and 575 additional captioned illustrations. Vol. I alone shows a touch of very light foxing to the preliminaries, otherwise all volumes clean as could be internally. Vol. I: 1919-1947; Vol. II: 1947-1949; Vol. III: 1949-1956; and Vol. IV: 1956-1963. This set also includes a handsome, custom deep-red slipcase, which is in superb condition.
