By Hart, William S., and Mary E. Hart
(n.p.): The Lacotah Press. Near Fine in Very Good+ dj. (c.1940). First Edition. Hardcover. [minor shelfwear only to book; the jacket is lightly edgeworn, with a couple of small ragged chips at the top and bottom edges of the rear panel, and two short diagonal creases at the upper corner of the front flap]. (B&W illustrated plates) INSCRIBED and SIGNED by the first-billed author on the front endpaper: "To / Dear dear Jane / In remembrance / From / Bill Hart / 1943." Seven "stories of the East and West -- a sort of fanciful history painted on a truthful backdrop," with the jacket blurb making much of Hart's authenticity as a Westerner, acquainted as a boy with the likes of Bat Masterson and Wyatt Earp. The inscribee was actress Jane Novak, who appeared as Hart's co-star in five of his films between 1918 and 1921, and at one time was engaged to him. The co-author was Hart's much younger sister, who he referred to as "my constant advisor"; she had also collaborated with him on an earlier book, "Pinto Ben and Other Stories." Signed by One Author .
