How the Neuralgic Man was Cured: A Tale of St. Jacobs Oil" -- Humorous Transformation Advertisement
- New York, New York: Donaldson Bros, 1890
New York, New York: Donaldson Bros, 1890. Very good. Light toning, wear to hinges, small surface tears.. A comical transformation advertising St. Jacobs Oil, a kind of liniment used for aches, pains and rheumatism akin to today's "Icy Hot" patches. The transformation is made from three panels, the two panels on either side of the center panel bisected. To read the story, the reader lifts each panel in alternation. The final panel reveals a smiling cured man with the caption "O Joy! O Bliss! O Happiness! St. Jacobs Oil Befriended That Man So Sad. He's Ever Glad- Neuralgia Tortures Ended". The back panel depicts a monk in the forest. Chromolithographed, measuring approx. 3.25" by 2.25" folded.
