By ALBERTOLLI, Giocondo
Milan, 1787. Giacomo Mercoli. Etching. Image measures 18" x 12"

This lovely 18th century etching depicts a tureen designed to be made in silver for a Cremonese Knight. Designed and drawn by Giocondo Albertolli, this print was engraved by Giacomo Mercoli and published in "Ornamenti Diversi inventati disegnati ed eseguiti da Giocondo Albertolli", 1787. This print is in very good condition, with heavy foxing to outer margin at right edge, not affecting the image.

Giocondo Albertolli (1742-1839) was a Swiss-born artist, architect, and sculptor active in Italy during the Neoclassical period. He was nominated professor of architectural ornament at the Brera Academy in Milan, a post he held for nearly 30 years. Napoleon made him a Knight of the Iron Crown in 1809.
