United States, 1930. Poor to fair. Notebook leaves sometime disbound, toned, minor dust soiling, chipping and short tears. Pinholes and evidence of past adhesive to photo postcards.. A section removed from a scrap book compiled c.1930s by a banjo player and popular music enthusiast, including three real photo postcards and other photos of himself posing with his banjo, his dog ("Prince and Me-- Both dogs"), and his car. Includes a March 1926 newspaper clipping referencing a "Robert J. Toole" of Wilkes Barre, perhaps the banjo player in question. There are mentions of other musicians the man has played with including Johnie "Obie" O'Brien ("the Hottest Sax player in 3 states"), fiddle player Ken Fogg, pianist Ed Chisholm, and drummer "Johnie" Williams; they all played together in Machias, Maine, in the summer of 1924. Also includes original photos of "Jolly Joe" Bowers and his Black and White Orchestra in 1924, with the members names labeled, and clippings of photos of other famous bands including: Roger Wolf Kahn's Orchestra; The Blue Blowers; Herb Weidoeft's Orchestra; Burke S. Calfee and his Paramount Orchestra; The Pier Serenaders; The 1st U.S. Infantry Band; and ten famous banjo players, each posing with their instrument.
