[Akron, Ohio]: United Rubber Workers, 1965. Very good to near-fine.. Vision Needed for Labor's Future": a printed book of inspirational quotes from politicians, poets, social leaders and religious figures throughout history, demonstrating the ongoing struggle labor unions and social advocates face c.1965. Published by United Rubber Workers, AFL-CIO, CLC, a labor union founded in 1935 that would eventually be absorbed into United Steelworkers of America in the 1990s. Includes a faith-based message from the organization's President, George Burton, as well as notes in the back from the Secretary-Treasurer and Vice President. Of particular note is a section addressed to "White, Christian Americans" on p.22 informing them that they now "are a minority on this globe" and that if they were born today they would most likely be "born colored" and at risk of being illiterate, chronically ill, and "living in a mud hut, with a dirt floor". An interesting excerpt with much more for a student or scholar to parse. Single vol. (10.5" by 8.25"), pp. 24, illus., stapled in original illus. wrps with orange band on right-hand edge and seal of organization in lower left-hand corner. A small sampling of the compilation's sources: Robert Burns; Dante Alighieri; Confucius; St. Augustine; the Declaration of Independence; John Stuart Mill; and Thomas Jefferson.
