Originally scored for violins, viola, cello/bass, timpani, trumpets, horns, oboes, and bassoons; flutes and clarinets were added in ca. 1783.
Binding slightly worn, rubbed, and stained. Scattered minor soiling and browning; old paper repair to gutters of pp. 4 and 5; musicsellers' stamps and manuscript inventory number to foot of series title. Number 7 in the series of 12 symphonies published in full score by Breitkopf & Härtel, with music printed from plates of the first edition of 1832 (RISM M5522).
The Symphony No. 35 in D Major (the "Haffner") was composed in July 1782 to celebrate the ennoblement of Siegmund Haffner in Salzburg on 29 July.
