St. Louis, Missouri: Ringen Stove Co, 1910. Very good. Minor toning. A couple short tears.. A drawing book with rhymes for children advertising "Quick Meal" brand stoves sold by the Ringen Stove Co., featuring illustrations for children to trace and color in. Notable for its depiction of Teddy Roosevelt as an American adventure hero, and also for its conversely discriminatory depiction of African natives as "savage" or "other". The cover shows Roosevelt with a gun on horseback, hunting a lion alongside a native in stereotypically primitive dress with spear. The images inside depict African animals, and there is one of a stereotyped African man eating "Congo fare" by an outdoor camp fire, serving as contrast to the sleek and modern "Quick Meal" brand stove. Single vol. (5" by 3"), 3 illus. leaves, interleaved with tracing paper or tissue, in original color illustrated wrps. Tracings to attract the interest of children - encouraging their parent to buy the product.
