This work, originally published in German circa 1670, is here translated into English by Walter Wallich, with drawings by Fritz Wegner. It features a character that made an appearance in von Grimmelshausen's earlier work, and this novel inspired Bertolt Brecht's play Mutter Courage und ihre Kinder (Mother Courage and Her Children).
