The illustrations reproduce contemporary paintings, etchings and lithographs. The text consists of selections from the letters to and from Thomas Creevey, and from the other papers, including notes for a proposed history of his own times, that were left at the author's death. The text covers the period 1793 - 1838 and is preceded by a biographical essay by Gore. This is the first publication of any part of the text.
