Waterville, Maine: Coburn Classical Institute, 1920. Very good. Some toning, minor staining/dust soiling.. Photo-illustrated booklet promoting the Coburn Classical Institute, a preparatory school which operated from 1828 until 1970 in Waterville, Maine. Includes fourteen (14) photos of the school, its grounds and students, including its state of the art kitchen laboratory ("Twelve girls can work easily and efficiently at one time in this room"), girls in their "Household Arts" uniforms (made by themselves), the Y.W.C.A. president and related activities, outdoor recreation, the girls' basketball team, and several girls dressed up for a Shakespearean production. Note the costumes worn for the school masquerade, which includes a wonderful example of a Charlie Chaplin costume. Girls were admitted to the school beginning in 1845, and remained co-ed, though it is notable that this publication features almost exclusively female students in its photos. Single vol. (5.25" by 7.25"), pp. [16], photo illus., original printed self wrps. with school seal on front.
