Uncut Articulated Paper Doll Depicting Chinese Man and Turkish Man
- Weissenburg, Germany: C. Burckardt, 1870
Weissenburg, Germany: C. Burckardt, 1870. Very good to near-fine. Toned.. A scarce example of an uncut articulated paper doll from the 1870s, printed in Germany. There are two dolls, each lithographed and hand colored. To assemble, the child cuts out each piece and attaches them together where the numbers match, using a needle and string. The result is a jointed paper doll that "dances" when strings are pulled, not unlike a puppet. These dolls depict a Chinese man and a Turkish man, both in traditional dress.
