England, 1840. Very good. A little toned with a couple spots, letter folds.. A fine, hand-colored Valentine, depicting a country gentleman looking up to his beloved in her window. She leans over to give him a love letter. A large urn with wild roses decorates the scene, with church in the distance. At the foot is a stanza of verse that reads, "Blushing like the fragrant rose, / Here loves passion I disclose, / Gathered from love's fairy bowers-- / Hid beneath a wreath of flowers-- / Yes, my heart cleaves first to thine, / My first--my chosen Valentine." Hand-colored lithograph bifolium (9.5” by 7.75”), with early ink inscription inside that reads, “You are little you are pretty / You are single what a pity / What a lucky little couple / You and I should make”, signed “Farmer Sticker”.
