By Elisabeth Bergner (subject)
Universal City: Universal Pictures, 1941. Three vintage publicity photographs of Austrian-British actress Elisabeth Bergner in 1941, including two bordered and one borderless. Provenance stamps on the verso, and two with the stamp of photographer Ray Jones.

Bergner began her acting career on the stage, and gained widespread acclaim for her portrayal of Gemma Jones in Margaret Kennedy's 1934 play "Escape Me Never." Bergner would repeat her performance on Broadway, and in a 1935 film adaptation, earning an Academy Award nomination for the latter.

From the archive of noted Hollywood still photographer Ray Jones. Born in Wisconsin on January 1, 1901, Jones worked for Paramount Pictures in the early 1930s, and went on to be the head of the still photography department at Universal Pictures in 1935, where he worked well into the 1950s.

Approximately 8 x 10 inches, one trimmed irregularly. Very Good plus.
