Beautiful, gestural strokes compose a scene of a man and a woman looking out over the water in the seaside town of St. Ives, Cornwall. Inscriptions include the artist's monogram and date in the lower left: "18 / ZORN / 91" and the words "St. Ives England" in the lower right. Below the image is the artist's signature, and written above is the word "proof" in the artist's hand. Minimal surface dirt, some restoration.
Anders Zorn (1860-1920) was one of Sweden's foremost Impressionist artists. He was best known for his portraiture, serving as the portrait artist for King Oscar II of Sweden. He also painted portraits of three American presidents, Grover Cleveland, William H. Taft, and Theodore Roosevelt.
