Richmond, VA: Central Publishing Company, 1930. 7 ¾” x 5 ¼” soft cover is a 4th edition of Richmond writer Louise Nurney Kernodle’s Guide Book, published by her husband’s company, the large Central Publishing Co. on Broad Street. First published in 1914, it contains views and a map of the city as well as discriptions and maps of battlefields from the Civil War. Kernodle, a longtime historian of the United Daughters of the Confederacy, gives detailed and succint directions of and to the suggested sites in this book. Containing a fold-out map, introduction, numerous ads, and a testimonial from Richmond Public Schools, this guidebook is a well-preserved time capsule of the city as viewed by its old-money elite in 1930. 128pp with some wear to covers; good+.
