Receipt handwritten in ink on illustrated billhead, depicting two young boys in fashionable clothing. Markets the clothes as "Boys' Custom Garments Made in the Most Thorough Manner at the Lowest Prices". Dated Oct. 12, 1863, and noting a $6 sale paid. Measures approx. 5.25" by 8.5" George W. Carnes (b.1821) was a Boston merchant notable for refusing to abide by the Fugitive Slave Law in 1850, and for supporting local abolitionists.
