This 12 ¼”x 9 ¼; the original wrappers are rebound in green hardcover binding with gilttitle “Original Ballet Russe”. 1946-1947 Metropolitan Opera House Season and Coast to Coast Tour, presented by S. Hurok, with Director Col. Wassily de Basil; with black and white photograph of the dancers, most of which are signed.~~Founded in 1909 by Sergei Diaghilev, the Ballet Russe became the most influential ballet company of the 20th century by expanding the audience beyond the upper class through ground-breaking collaborations with choreographers, composers, designers, and dancers. By the late 30s the company had been re-formed and re-named to the “Original Ballet Russe” under the directorship of de Basil.~~Nearly the entire cast has autographed their photograph, including famed Osage nation ballerina Marjorie Tallchief. Laid in are three autographed 8” x 10” glossy photos: Tenor Guiseppe di Stefano in 1949, ballerina Cynthia Riseley, and Russian-born dancer Senia Solomonoff in 1912. Di Stefano and Solomonoff inscribed theirs to M. Charpenel, a Mexican-American bookseller to whom the volume also belonged. Altogether, there are 33 autographs, including the laid in photographs.
