Tattering to spine caps and corners, torn hinges, smudging/shelf wear. Text block gilt worn off top edge, presentation note in ink on front endpapers, light puckering to paper, intermittent spine breaks, first volume has cracked hinges and damp stains to top fore corner of initial pages. Illustrated: b&w frontispiece portrait in first volume.
