Textblock has minor soiling and stains on some pages throughout, mild foxing and age toning on pages 78-79, the pastedown pages, and end-pages, age toning and stains along the edges. DL consignment. Shelved in Room C. The book was originally published in 1938 as "Uncle Tom's Children: Four Long Stories." Harper republished the book adding one more story. Includes a long autobiographical preface: "The Ethics of Living Jim Crow" and the original four novellas:" Big Boy Leaves Home", "Down by the Riverside", "Long Black Song", & "Fire and Cloud."
