Grand Rapids MI: Wm. B. Eerdmans Publishing Company. Near Fine in Very Good+ dj. 1940. First Edition. Hardcover. [minor bumping to base of spine, no other significant wear, one-time owner's name and address in blue ink at top of front endpaper; the jacket has a short closed tear at top front hinge, another tiny tear and associated short diagonal crease at top of front panel, minor edgewear here and there]. Christian-themed fiction, about a man who "was gifted with the talent of a beautiful voice, and with it his mother had dedicated him to take on the mantle of his dead father, who had been a famous Christian song leader. But first [he] must be sifted as wheat; that awful pride and egoism must be taken out of him, burned out." His life gets complicated as he goes out into the world, however: at music school he meets a Bad Girl ("the lovely Shera Thorwald, whose religion was a worship of the beautiful") and then he meets a Good Girl ("LeVera Webber, daughter of the pastor at whose church Rodney got his first job"). .
