Signed. 8vo.; in full speckled calf, with a decorative border in gilt to the perimeter of the boards, and with greek key design and decorations in gilt, and with red morocco label; there is minor loss to the extremities of the spine; the top quarter of the upper board is darkened; with an elaborate frontispiece portrait of James Neild; some copies have an additional plate of Dr. Lessom; this is lacking in this copy; however, the large folding plate of Newgate is present.~~Neild trained as a goldsmith and became and enormously successful jeweller in Lonrdon. After he retired he devoted his leisure time to encouraging the reform of prisons. ~~This copy is signed with inscription by the author on the endpaper: “To Thos. Mytton Esq. with the author’s respects”. (DNB (1921-22), Vol. XIV, 169-170). Very Good binding.
