Why Not Prevent This

Long Beach: Women's Non-Partisan Propaganda Committee, [ca 1920]. Leaflet, 19cm x 14cm (7-1/2" x 5-1/2"). Bifolium (4pp); cover illustration; 2pp of text, rear page with imprint only. Near Fine.

A plea to California women voters to support America's entry to the League of Nations. The cover graphic portrays a WW1 doughboy, missing both his legs, being carried into his home by a pair of mates. The interior text argues that the League of Nations (at this time being actively opposed by the Republican majority in Congress) was the only sure path to preventing a repeat of the horrors of the Great War. An interesting and fairly early attempt to mobilize the women's vote; equal suffrage had been granted in California in 1911. Rare; not separately catalogued in OCLC (nor do we locate any other catalogued material produced by this organization).
