An attractive copy of Ms.Dodge’s last book signed by the author on the front end paper, with a tipped in signed anagram in her handwriting “written for the purchaser of this book, April 27, 1895”. While Dodge notes that it is “too simple an anagram to require an answer here”, it took our shop staff some little while to figure it out. However, we are not regular readers of St. Nicholas Magazine, which Dodge edited and which was full of anagrams. A charming item.~~8vo; in publisher’s orange cloth; with decorations and tilting on the upper board and spine in gilt and decorations on the boards and spine stamped in blind; 313 pages; a few trivial stains on the board; the spine is darkened; the book is a bit cocked; there is a previous owner’s name plate to the front pastedown. Very Good binding.
