S.[Alexander Samuel} Salley who was an historian of South Carolina and archivist with Historical Commission of South Carolina. The signature is on the front cover of Number 1, and underneath is tipped in “Presented by F. G. De Fontaine”. There is also a TLS from the author to Mr. Salley soliciting his help in obtaining subscribers to his Letters periodical in Charleston. It appears that the two issues bound here are the only two printed. Tipped in as well is a blank order form for the book.~~The two issues are uncommon; a nice association both with A. S.
