Scarce New Mexico imprint. A detailed history exploring the religious and cultural in New Mexico during the 19th and early 20th centuries. The Reverend Thomas Harwood (1829-1916) joined the Methodist Episcopal Church in 1841 in Delaware, and was licensed to preach in 1855. In 1869, he was appointed to minister in New Mexico, where he and his wife Emily served together for nearly thirty-three years. Harwood founded the devotional periodical, El Abogado Cristiano, with articles in both English and Spanish, in 1879.
