By William von Bergen
[n.p.]: William von Bergen, 1889. Very Good. [n.p.]: William von Bergen, 1889. First Edition. 12mo (16 cm); 106pp+4 memo. Illus. throughout. Boards full bound in maroon cloth with gilt stamping and blind decoration to front cover only. All edges gilt. Two-tone floral endsheets. Board extremities shelfworn with bumping and wear to corners and spine ends. Scuffing and minor soiling to boards with scratches to page edges. Previous owner pencil to front flyleaf on both sides, including a name, and brief pencil on a few pages. Purple rubber stamp to title page warns the reader that the amount each coin is quoted to be worth is based on large collections sold at public auction, and that any small collections or single coins will go for less when sold to coin dealers. OCLC has no previous editions stated and neither does the title page. OCLC notes the place of publication as Cambridge, MA.

Collectors of rare coins could use this reference to determine if they had anything of value, and the author encourages the reader to send a list of their collection and any rubbings to him if they want a full quote. A 1794 US silver dollar may be worth anywhere from $30 to $100 depending on whether it has been circulated or not, while an English silver crown is $1.75. Not anything to be sniffed at in 1889.
