By Schroeder, John Frederick.
Second Edition. Pamphlet, small 8vo, removed, 28 pp. Some soiling and foxing, a few notes on title, a few corner folds, dbd; otherwise good to very good.Schroeder (1800-1857) makes this address at the opening of a medical dispensary in New York City to provide for the needs of the poor. He starts off his address by defining the three types of poor people. The first group he refers to are those that are reduced to poverty because of their own vices, which he didn't consider worthy of help. The other two kinds of poverty are those who are old or sick, and those that work, but just don't make enough to survive on, as being the kinds of people who deserve support. Schroeder calls on physicians and surgeons to help in the care of the poor.
