Nevertheless, at the beginning of the nineteenth century little comparative or embryologico-anatomical data had been amassed. At this time Tiedemann, as well as other anatomists, stimulated inquiries into both these fields by means of his widely popular book on the development of the human fetal brain” (Clarke & O’Malley, pp. 827-828).
